Petit Paradis concerns a vacation home for a US based client, searching for a save and comfortable spot to rest, with all the basics of nature, but also luxury and comfort. This has been translated into a ‘’modern Saban cottage’’
The cottage on the tropical island of Saba is conceived as a careful balance between privacy and panoramic openness, embedded within a lush mountain landscape. Located at approximately 400 meters above sea level, the contemporary dwelling integrates seamlessly with its environment while offering a efficient and modern interior.
The living area forms the core of the house and is expressed as a higher volume oriented toward panoramic views to the north-east and south. Private functions, including the bedrooms, are positioned to the south to ensure seclusion. The master suite connects directly to the pool, reinforcing a fluid indoor–outdoor relationship. An outdoor kitchen and dining deck, placed downwind near the entrance, extends daily living into the tropical setting.
Situated along the mountain ridge, the pool serves as a focal point and viewing platform, offering uninterrupted vistas across the landscape. The material palette combines local Saba stone and Venetian plaster with in-situ concrete construction, referencing traditional building methods while ensuring durability and resistance to extreme climatic conditions.
Distinct geometric forms, rooted in local construction traditions , the living “cube” and bedroom “triangle”, define the architectural identity of the cottage and enhance its visibility within the landscape, the jungle of Saba.
